The Glossary of Girth Enhancement
Looking into girth enhancement? Do all the terms leave you befuddled? The urologists at the Perito Clinic in Miami have assembled this Glossary of Girth Enhancement to help you better understand all the terms you should know about.
Autologous Fat Injections:
A girth enhancement technique where fat is liposuctioned from another part of the body (such as the abdomen or thighs) and injected into the penis to increase circumference. Results can be unpredictable, with fat reabsorption, irregularities, or lump formation being common risks.
Botox (Botulinum Toxin):
A type of toxin used to temporarily relax smooth muscle tissue in the penis, potentially improving blood flow and enhancing erections. This method is not widely studied for penile enhancement and is primarily used for medical conditions like chronic pelvic pain syndrome.
Collagen Penile Fillers:
Injectable substances designed to add girth by stimulating collagen production in the penile tissue. These fillers are less commonly used due to the high risks of allergic reactions and inconsistent absorption, making hyaluronic acid (HA) the preferred filler option at the Perito Clinic.
Erectile Dysfunction (ED):
The inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance. Various treatments are available, including medications, devices, and surgical options.
Girth Enhancement:
Girth enhancement refers to medical procedures designed to increase the circumference of the penis for aesthetic and functional improvements. Methods include injectable fillers (such as hyaluronic acid (HA) for a safe, reversible option), fat grafting, silicone implants, and surgical techniques like dermal grafting. At the Perito Clinic, the UroFill® technique using HA fillers is the preferred method due to its natural feel, safety, and adjustability compared to riskier permanent options.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers:
Injectable substances used to increase penile girth. HA is a naturally occurring substance in the body, and its use in penile enhancement is considered safe and effective when performed by qualified professionals.
Inflatable Penile Implants:
These prostheses consist of two inflatable cylinders placed within the penis, a reservoir containing fluid, and a pump located in the scrotum. When an erection is desired, the individual manually activates the pump, transferring fluid into the cylinders to produce rigidity. After intercourse, the device can be deflated, returning the penis to a flaccid state. This type of implant offers a more natural-feeling erection and flaccidity when not in use.
Jelqing:
A manual penile stretching exercise that involves massaging the penis to increase its size. Despite anecdotal claims, there is no scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness, and it may cause damage.
Malleable (Semi-Rigid) Implants:
A type of penile implant that involves the insertion of bendable rods into the penis. The penis remains firm but can be positioned as needed for sexual activity. While simpler in design and operation, malleable implants result in a permanently firm penis, which may be less natural in appearance.
Micropenis:
A medical term for an abnormally small penis, typically defined as more than 2.5 standard deviations below the mean size for age and racial group.
Modeling:
A manual penis shaping technique used after penile girth enhancement or Peyronie’s disease treatment to ensure the penis shaft has optimal smoothness and shape. After hyaluronic acid (HA) injections, gentle massaging helps distribute the filler for a natural look and feel. In Peyronie’s disease treatment, modeling is used to reduce curvature and improve function. Proper modeling enhances symmetry, comfort, and a pleasing overall aesthetic appearance (See shaping).
Penile Anxiety:
Refers to excessive worry, stress, or negative emotions related to the appearance, size, function, or performance of the penis.
Penile Dysmorphophobia:
A psychological condition where an individual perceives their penis to be smaller than it is, often leading to significant distress.
Penile Enlargement (Male Enhancement):
Techniques aimed at increasing the size of the human penis, including length, girth, or both. Methods range from surgical procedures to non-invasive approaches.
Penile Implants:
A penile implant, or penile prosthesis, is a medical device surgically inserted into the penis to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) when other treatments have proven ineffective. This procedure is known for its high satisfaction rates among patients and their partners.
Penile Traction Therapy:
A non-surgical method using devices that apply gentle, consistent stretching to the penis, aiming to increase length. Some studies suggest it can be effective, particularly for conditions like Peyronie’s disease.
Penis Pump:
A device that creates negative pressure around the penis, drawing blood into it to induce an erection. While effective for erectile dysfunction, its efficacy in permanent enlargement is unproven.
Peyronie’s Disease :
A medical condition where scar tissue forms inside the penis, causing it to bend or curve, which can lead to pain, difficulty with erections, and changes in size or shape. It may develop from injury or repeated stress to the penile tissue. Treatments at the Perito Clinic include hyaluronic acid injections (UroFill®) and penile implants for severe cases.
Phalloplasty:
A surgical procedure involving the construction or reconstruction of a penis, often used in gender-affirming surgeries or to address congenital anomalies.
PMMA (aka Polymethyl Methacrylate):
A form of penis filler sometimes used for penile girth enhancement that consists of a synthetic, non bio-absorbable filler made of tiny microscopic beads suspended in a gel-like solution, which is injected into the penis to increase its size. Over time, the body responds by forming collagen around the beads, creating a semi-permanent increase in girth.
PRP Penile Injections:
PRP (platelet rich plasma) is a form of penile injection that uses the patient’s own blood plasma, enriched with platelets, to stimulate tissue growth, improve blood flow, and promote natural regeneration. Some proponents claim PRP can increase both length and girth, though results vary and take time to develop. At the Perito Clinic, our view is that PRP alone does not provide the instant, consistent, and measurable girth gains that HA fillers can achieve.
Sculpting:
The process of manually shaping and refining the results of a penile girth enhancement procedure, typically after hyaluronic acid (HA) injections like UroFill®. This technique ensures that the filler is evenly distributed, creating a smooth, symmetrical, and natural appearance.
Silicone Block:
A silicone penile implant designed to increase penile girth and flaccid length through a surgical procedure. The implant is crescent-shaped, made of medical-grade silicone, and is inserted under the penile skin to provide a permanent size increase. While marketed as a girth enhancement solution, it has significant risks, including infection, implant shifting, scarring, unnatural appearance, and loss of sensation. Many urologists, including Dr. Paul Perito, do not recommend this procedure due to its high complication rates and irreversible nature.
Soundwave Therapy:
A non-invasive ED treatment, soundwave therapy, also known as low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy (Li-ESWT), involves placing a device that emits low frequency sound waves over the penile shaft to improve blood flow to the penis. While some studies suggest benefits, results vary, and it is not a substitute for true girth enhancement procedures like UroFill®.
Staging:
The process of performing penile girth enhancement in multiple sessions rather than all at once. This approach allows for a gradual and controlled increase in girth, reducing the risk of irregularities or overfilling. Staging is particularly useful for men seeking larger volume increases or those with specific aesthetic goals that require more than one treatment session to achieve optimal results.
Suspensory Ligament Release:
A surgical procedure that cuts the ligament attaching the penis to the pubic bone, allowing it to extend further outside the body. This increases flaccid length but doesn’t affect erect length and may impact sexual function.
UroFill®:
The only patented penile girth enhancement technique, UroFill® was developed by Dr. Paul Perito. It utilizes hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers to safely and effectively increase penile circumference. Unlike permanent implants or synthetic fillers, UroFill® provides a natural look and feel, is minimally invasive, and offers adjustable and reversible results. Thousands of UroFill® procedures have been performed successfully in Miami, throughout the United States and around the world, making it the gold standard for non-surgical penile enlargement.
